Edinboro, Pennsylvania - January 25, 2010 - A group of online retailers and business-to-business services announced today that they are donating a percentage of their sales to support disaster relief in Haiti.

During the week of February 1 - 5, 2010, over 15 participating merchants and business services will make contributions based on individual purchases or a percentage of their sales, and many have also pledged to donate 10% of all sales made on Thursday, February 4th. Some participating business services will make a contribution for each new client they gain during this time.

The funds raised from the event will be distributed to several leading charitable organizations including Doctors Without Borders, Samaritan's Purse, World Vision, and The Red Cross.

"We wanted to focus on charities that send 95 to 100 percent of their proceeds directly to the victims of the Haiti earthquake," said Cathy Ward, a coordinator and spokesperson of the project. "We want the money we raise to help as many of those affected as possible."

The participating businesses are primarily Yahoo! Stores, a web hosting platform geared for smaller and independently owned companies. Store owners came up with the idea for the project on Your Store Forums, an online community where store members share questions, tips, and advice.

"We are all independent business owners coming from different backgrounds, but this is something we knew we should do together," Ward said. She added, "Some of us are giving a percentage of our sales, others are donating their time and talents to this project. What's important is that people are making a concerted effort to help. By coming together, we're trying to make the biggest impact possible."

Ward has created a page on her website, BridesVillage.com, that includes links to all the participating businesses along with information on the contributions that each plans to make. The page also has links to additional information about each of the charities.

Every dollar counts, and the participants have extended a warm thank you to everyone in advance for their help. The following is a brief recap of the effort:

During the week of February 1 - 5, Yahoo! Store retailers are coming together with offers that benefit Haiti relief efforts.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th was the strongest in over 200 years and is the single worst natural disaster in Haiti's history. As many as 200,000 people are feared dead. Nearly 3 million residents, a third of Haiti's population, have been displaced or left homeless.

You can help the victims of this catastrophe by visiting any of the participating retailers or any of these business services who contributed their assistance to promote this event during the week of February 1 - 5. Some owners are donating to the Red Cross. Some stores are donating to one or more of the following charitable organizations, who send 95% - 100% of their proceeds directly to the victims.
